Sur-Na, Syria

ISIS Cell Commander Ferran Mostafa was furious and for good reason. After seducing Group Commander Hatem Chalibi, the Syrian eahira (whore) stabbed him to death, then fled the village along with a Yazidi slave girl. Gun trucks had been dispatched to search the surrounding area, find Hala Omar and bring her in.

As for the girl named Nina, she would be gang raped, and shot. Then Mostafa would order his men to hang Nina’s body in the main square as a warning to those who dared do violence to an ISIS leader. Or a fighter for that matter.

And that was why Mostafa had chosen to visit a girl named Aisha. She was the girl Nina shared a sleeping cubicle with prior to running away. Did they share confidences? Maybe, and maybe not. But Mostafa was determined to find out.

Aisha was trembling with fear when brought before Mostafa. He sought to calm her. “There’s nothing to worry about, Aisha. You have nothing to fear so long as you answer my questions truthfully. Do you know where Nina is?”

Aisha shook her head.

“I believe you,” Mostafa said. “Did Nina talk about running away? Remember, be honest.”

Aisha stared at her feet. Her voice was so low that Mostafa could barely hear it. “Nina wanted to be free.”

Mostafa nodded. “Did Nina dream of going to a particular place?”

“Almakan Alaman. The Women’s Place.”

Mostafa felt his heart leap with joy. “Why there?”

“Because women run it.”

“Thank you, Aisha. You may go.”

Thus freed, the girl turned and hurried away. Tears were streaming down her cheeks.
